A short blogpost to celebrate the 9 of May, the day of Europe. The day is also known as Schuman Day, commemorating the historical declaration by French foreign minister Robert Schuman. And a propose to create a European Trending Topic.
Looking at the social media, looks that today is a big day. I can feel the Europeanism. All my Facebook feed and Twitter timeline is full of , tweets, posts, declarations, blogposts and intentions for Europe. I did not see it years before. Probably we are not living in the best times for a United Europe. But I wonder how it will when everything will be fine.
You can find thousand of pages and sites that explain values, history, declarations of Europe, so I will not copy & paste something that is easy to find.
However I would like to mention that #happyeuropeday is Trending Topic on Twitter. I have been checking the TT around the world. The problem is that is “nationalistic divided”. And from here, from my blog I would like to propose to have an option in the Trending Topic List that embraces “Europe”.
Now you can find like “World –> Spain –> Madrid.
But could be nice if we can find “World –> Europe –> Spain –> Madrid.
Remembering the French elections, I was monitoring the hashtag #hollande, and I saw that all Europe was speaking about it. But it was very difficult to tag from where. With a European region, we could easily see what is being spoken within us, and later within countries. And indirectly linking us to each other/country. Another possible way to promote, or at least to check, an European online Public Sphere, and to break this lack of bridges between languages or national bubbles when speaking about EU affairs.
I know it is something small. But at the same time is very symbolic. We have in Catalonia a proverb that says: “Tota pedra fa pared”. It means, in a literary translation that “all stones makes wall”. Explained means all contributions are important and can build up something big.
Happy Europe Day!
